Filipina Olympian fencer Sam Catantan was named to the NCAA All-American Second Team in foil on Friday.

Catantan earned the recognition after finishing eighth in the women’s foil event, winning 14 of her 23 matches, according to Pennsylvania State University.

Earlier this month, she was also part of Penn State’s women’s foil squad that captured the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional championship.

In an Instagram post, Catantan expressed her gratitude to the university for the opportunities it provided throughout her collegiate career.

“Sometimes, ‘thank you’ doesn’t even begin to cover what a place, experience, or chapter of life meant, whether it’s the people you met, what you learned, or how you grew,” she wrote.

“I feel that way as I reflect on my time fencing for Penn State. Beyond blessed and grateful to have had the opportunity to fence for Penn State for the last five years and for all the opportunities it has brought to my life.”
