Alex Eala to face Karolina Muchova in Miami Open Round of 16

Alexandra “Alex” Eala is set to take on Czech player Karolína Muchová in the Round of 16 of the Miami Open.

The 29-year-old Muchova currently sits at world No. 14 and reached a career-high ranking of No. 8 in 2023.

Since making her Grand Slam debut at the US Open in 2018, she has established herself as a consistent presence on the tour, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the 2023 French Open, where she fell to Iga Swiatek.

Muchova has enjoyed a strong run in recent Grand Slam tournaments, reaching the quarterfinals of the 2024 US Open and advancing to the Round of 16 at this year’s Australian Open.

She also captured the Qatar Open title earlier this season, marking the second WTA title of her career.

In Miami, Muchova rallied past Camila Osorio, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, in the Round of 64 before defeating Britain’s Katie Boulter, 6-3, 7-5, to secure her place in the Round of 16.

Eala, currently ranked No. 29 in the world, is relishing the opportunity to face one of the tour’s top players.

“She’s obviously a great player and is doing really well. A couple of years back, I watched one of her finals and I was really impressed, so to be put in a position to compete against her is a real privilege. It’s going to be a test for sure,” Eala said in a press conference.

The Filipina advanced to the fourth round after a 6-3, 7-6(2) victory over Magda Linette.
