Alexandra “Alex” Eala relished her debut at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz Open, made even more special by the presence of Filipino fans in the crowd.

On Wednesday, Eala defeated hometown bet Julia Grabher, 6-4, 6-3, to advance to the tournament’s Round of 16.

“Hello, mga kababayan. Hindi ko inakala ang dami niyo dito sa Linz, pero salamat sa pagsubaybay sa mga laban ko at magkita tayo tomorrow,” Eala said as she addressed her supporters after the match.

The world No. 46 shared that she was pleased with the warm reception she received in Linz.

“I’m really happy with how they’ve welcomed me and the Filipinos,” Eala said. “I’m very thankful for the hospitality.”

“I hope to discover more of your culture and have some fun on the court.”

The Rafa Nadal Academy also congratulated Eala on her victory.

“Great debut by Alex Eala at Linz,” the academy said.

Eala will face Jelena Ostapenko next in the Round of 16.
