Alex Eala vs Jelena Ostapenko: Head-to-Head record and Linz Open Preview
Alexandra “Alex” Eala is set to face former Grand Slam champion Jelena Ostapenko once again, this time in the Round of 16 of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz Open.
Eala defeated Julia Grabher, 6-4, 6-3, in the Round of 32, while Ostapenko earned a first round bye.
The match is scheduled for Wednesday night at around 7:10 p.m. (Philippine time), following the match between Dayana Yastremska and Elena-Gabriela Ruse, which begins at 6:00 p.m.
Eala and Ostapenko are no strangers to each other, having met twice on tour last year.
Their first encounter came at the Miami Open, where Eala secured a 7–6(2), 7–5 victory.
Months later, they met again at the Eastbourne Open, where the Filipina advanced after Ostapenko retired due to injury. The match was halted with Eala leading 0–6, 6–2, 3–2.
This time, however, the two will battle on clay, adding a different dynamic to their matchup. On clay, Ostapenko brings the experience of a 2017 French Open title along with strong statistics, according to the WTA.
