Mirra Andreeva cruises past Sloane Stephens in Linz Open
Top-seeded Mirra Andreeva won 75.8% of her first-serve points (25 of 33) and needed just 81 minutes to post a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Sloane Stephens on Wednesday in the second round of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz in Linz, Austria.
Andreeva, who received a first-round bye, overcame 33 unforced errors and hit just 13 winners against Stephens. The 18-year-old Russian will face fifth-seeded Sorana Cirstea of Romania in Friday's quarterfinals.
Cirstea held a 5-0 lead in the opening set in her second-round match before Dalma Galfi of Hungary retired due to injury.
Fourth-seeded Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia battled for a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Alexandra Eala of The Philippines, and Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska.
Ukraine's Anhelina Kalinina also rallied to post a 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Hungary's Panna Udvardy, while Austria's Anastasia Potapova notched a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Zhang Shuai of China.
