Alex Eala set to face Leylah Fernandez in Stuttgart Open Round of 32

Alexandra “Alex” Eala is set to face Leylah Fernandez in the Stuttgart Open Round of 32 as she continues her clay-court swing in Germany.

The mother of the 23-year-old Fernandez is a Filipino-Canadian.

Fernandez reached the finals of the US Open in 2021 and the quarterfinals of the French Open in 2022.

Currently world No. 25, Fernandez is coming off a Round of 16 stint in the Charleston Open and reached the Round of 32 in the Miami Open.

Eala, meanwhile, recently reached the Round of 16 in the Linz Open in her first clay-court tournament this season.

The two have not yet met in a singles match but have competed in doubles in the Abu Dhabi Open, where Eala joined forces with Janice Tjen as they won 7-5, 3-6, 10-6 against Fernandez and Kristina Mladenovic.
