Jiu-jitsu athletes Annie Ramirez and Yman Xavier Baluyo have been named flag bearers of the Philippine team for the opening ceremony of the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, set from April 22 to 30.
The Asian Beach Games is a multi-sport event featuring competitions held on the beach and in nearby bodies of water.
Ramirez is a two-time Asian Beach Games gold medalist, while Baluyo won a silver medal at last year’s Southeast Asian Games.
Around 100 Filipino athletes will compete in the Games, including beach volleyball players Sunny Villapando, Sofiah Pagara, Khyle Progella, and Grydelle Matibag, as well as triathletes Raven Alcoseba, Erika Burgos, Andrew Remolino, Inaki Lorbes, and Matthew Hermosa.
Athletes from 3x3 basketball, handball, wrestling, and other disciplines will also see action in the event.
In the last edition of the Beach Games in 2016, the Philippines won two golds, four silvers, and 15 bronze medals.
The Philippines is also expected to host the next edition in 2028, with Cebu City as the proposed venue.
