High jump ace Leonard Grospe cops PH’s second gold in Asian Beach Games
Leonard Gropse gave the Philippines its second gold medal in the 2026 Asian Beach Games after ruling the men's high jump on Friday in Sanya, China.
Grospe cleared 2.05 meters to claim the top honors while Chinese Taipei’s Po-Ting Yeh and China’s Hao Zhang both secured the silver medal with a similar 2.05 meter clearances, but the Filipino ace ruled due to countback.
The 24-year-old Grospe skipped 1.80 meters before clearing 1.90 meters in just one attempt. He then took two jumps to clear 2.00 meters, but only took one attempt to soar past 2.05 meters.
Yeh and Zhang both took two jumps to clear 2.05 meters.
Grospe’s feat handed the Philippines its second gold in the tournament after Alexandria Enriquez, who ruled the women’s 63kg final of the jiu-jitsu event on Thursday.
