The Philippines women's national baseball team has been selected as a wildcard entry to the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup this August.

The development was announced by the World Baseball Softball Confederation on Tuesday.

Ranked No. 21 in the world, the Philippines will make its debut in the Women’s Baseball World Cup this year.

The Philippines will join Japan, Venezuela, Cuba, Great Britain, and host Chinese Taipei in the Tainan group, with the group stage set from August 23 to 27.

The other group, which will play in Rockford, includes host United States, Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong, Australia, and South Korea.

Only the top three teams from each group will advance to the finals in Rockford next year.
