Alex Eala teams up with Victoria Mboko in French Open doubles, faces Leylah Fernandez-Diana Shnaider duo in opener
Alexandra “Alex” Eala will also compete in the French Open women’s doubles draw, where she will partner with former foe Victoria Mboko.
The 19-year-old Mboko is currently ranked world No. 9 in singles, while the 21-year-old Eala sits at No. 38.
Eala previously faced Mboko in the Round of 16 of the Hong Kong Open last year, where the Filipina ace fell to the Canadian teenager, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6.
The two also met in 2022, with Eala emerging victorious, 6-1, 7-6, in the semifinals of the US Open girls’ singles tournament — a title eventually won by the Filipina tennis star.
Eala and Mboko will open their doubles campaign against the tandem of Filipino-Canadian Leylah Fernandez and Russian Diana Shnaider.
In the singles draw, Eala will begin her campaign against Iva Jovic.
