PH wins two golds in Karate One Youth League
The Philippines captured two gold medals in the Karate One Youth League held from May 14 to 17 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Kathleya Ealaine Bustamante ruled the U14 kumite female 47kg division after defeating Australia’s Ana Jovic, 6-2, in the final.
Franzcis Eri Jud Abundo also struck gold, dominating Brunei’s Wan Azlee Khairi Bin Wan Zuraimi, 7-0, in the U14 kumite male 40kg championship match.
In other divisions, Japan’s Kyoka Okamoto defeated the Philippines’ Alexa Rae Vallesteros, 5-0, to win the U14 kata female title, while Saudi Arabia’s Moayad Alqahtani edged Filipino Dean Caleb Montalbo, 3-2, in the U14 kata male final.
Other winners on the tournament’s final day were Varvara Chumachenko (U14 kumite female 42kg), Romania’s Miruna Coman (U14 kumite female 52kg), Croatia’s Tesa Balog (U14 kumite female 52+kg), Saudi Arabia’s Moneer Alsahmrani (U14 kumite male +55kg), Artem Krokhta (U14 kumite male 45kg), Kyrgyzstan’s Danil Khvan (U14 kumite male 50kg), and Illia Lomaev (U14 kumite male 55kg).
The Karate One Youth League heads next to Poreč this July.
