Charles Boneo shatters 26-year-old Palarong Pambansa record in 50m butterfly gold-medal win
AGUSAN DEL SUR — Charles Boneo shattered a long-standing meet record to rule the elementary boys' 50m butterfly event in the 2026 Palarong Pambansa on Wednesday at the Aquatic Center in Datu Lipus Makapandong Governor D.O. Sports Complex.
The Region IV-A bet clocked 27.77 seconds to rule the 18-man field. By winning, the Cavite pride also broke the previous Palaro record of 28.03 seconds, which was set by Ronald Guiriba in 2000.
Jacob Pestaño of Region IV-B clinched the silver medal with 28.74 seconds while Region VI representative Brennan Hilario claimed the bronze with 29.59 seconds.
Yesterday, Boneo also ruled the 400m freestyle by clocking four minutes and 30.63 seconds, eclipsing the previous record of 4:31.39 set by Titus Sia last year in Ilocos Norte.
