Agusan del Sur governor assures aid for injured gymnast at 2026 Palarong Pambansa
AGUSAN DEL SUR — Agusan del Sur Governor Santiago Cane assured that assistance will be provided to a gymnast who suffered an injury during the 2026 Palarong Pambansa.
Cane confirmed the incident and said he had already coordinated with the provincial health office to ensure the student-athlete receives the necessary medical and financial support.
“The report came into my attention and I already instructed our health office to do anything and everything to assist medically and financially,” Cane said during a press conference on Thursday.
However, Cane and Palarong Pambansa secretary-general Malcolm Garma declined to reveal the identity of the injured gymnast and the region the athlete represents.

“Meron tayong data privacy. We don’t divulge the identity of the athletes,” Garma said.
Cane added that the injured gymnast will most likely no longer be able to compete for the remainder of the tournament.
“That would depend on the certification to be issued by a competent medical professional so wala pa kaming natatanggap pero syempre kung nabali ‘yung buto niya, palagay ko hindi na siya maglalaro,” Cane said.
The artistic gymnastics competition in this year’s Palarong Pambansa began on May 26 at the Socio-Cultural Gym in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.
