Alex Eala overcomes Alina Charaeva to reach WTA 125 Birmingham Open QF

Alexandra “Alex” Eala overcame Alina Charaeva, 6-2, 7-5, in the WTA 125 Birmingham Open Round of 16 on Thursday.

After dropping the first set, Charaeva threatened to force a third set, taking a 5-2 lead in the second set.

However, Eala managed to recover as she won all the next games to claim the victory.

Eala will face a familiar opponent in Mananchaya Sawangkaew of Thailand in the quarterfinals.

Eala and Sawangkaew faced off for the gold medal in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games last December.
