Christian Rodriguez submits Hyder Amil, hands Fil-Am fighter 3rd straight loss
Filipino-American fighter Hyder Amil suffered his third consecutive defeat after submitting to Christian Rodriguez in the opening round of their featherweight bout on Sunday morning (Philippine time) at UFC Fight Night: Kape vs. Horiguchi.
Rodriguez looked sharp from the opening bell, using crisp striking to keep Amil on the defensive during the featherweight contest at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Milwaukee native landed a vicious head kick that sent the Cebu City-born fighter crashing to the canvas. Sensing the finish, Rodriguez immediately cinched in a tight guillotine choke, putting Amil to sleep.
The official stoppage came at the 3:43 mark of the first round.
Both fighters entered the matchup looking to halt two-fight losing streaks. Rodriguez accomplished just that, improving his professional record to 13-4, while Amil dropped to 11-3.
