eGilas Pilipinas wins first eFIBA World title
eGilas Pilipinas, the Philippines' official eFIBA team, captured its first-ever world title after ruling the eFIBA World Finals Season 4 over the weekend in Qatar.
Composed of Miguel Hubillar, Chris Briones, Kenneth Gutierrez, Joshua Machado, and Prich Diez, eGilas Pilipinas defeated Türkiye in the best-of-three finals, clinching the championship with a 68-58 victory in the deciding game.
Earlier, the Philippines suffered its lone defeat of the tournament in the upper bracket finals, falling to France, 61-52. It bounced back by winning the next two games, 63-59 and 67-64, to secure a spot in the championship round.
The Philippines also swept the group stage, defeating France, 64-53, Algeria, 73-52, and Germany, 72-45. eGilas Pilipinas then beat Lebanon, 67-58, in the upper bracket semifinals to continue its title run.
