Alex Eala faces world No. 10 Elina Svitolina in DC Open quarterfinals

Alexandra "Alex" Eala will face world No. 10 Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals of the DC Open on Saturday.

Svitolina advanced after defeating Polina Kudermetova, 7-6(4), 6-4, in the Round of 16.

Eala, meanwhile, ousted defending champion Leylah Fernandez, 6-2, 7-6(1), to book her place in the quarterfinals.

This will be the second singles meeting between Eala and Svitolina on tour. The Filipina ace defeated the 31-year-old Ukrainian in the quarterfinals of the Berlin Tennis Open last June.

The winner of the Eala-Svitolina match will face the winner of the quarterfinal between Naomi Osaka and Elisa Cocciaretto.
