Islay Erika Bomogao scores stunning KO, earns ONE Championship contract

Filipina Muay Thai star Islay Erika Bomogao punched her ticket to the ONE Championship main roster with a knockout victory over Klinphaka Por Thaisong in their atomweight Muay Thai bout at ONE Friday Fights 164.

Bomogao took down her Thai foe with a perfectly placed right hand to the jaw, leaving Klinphaka unable to continue in the contest that took place on Friday evening at the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The official stoppage came just 13 seconds into the third round.

Klinphaka's length posed problems early as she used a steady diet of kicks to keep the Baguio City native at bay. She even dropped Bomogao with a roundhouse in the opening round, but the Team Bagsik standout quickly recovered.

The tides turned in Round Two when Bomogao closed the distance and landed sharp elbows in the clinch.

Having found her rhythm, the 25-year-old wasted little time in the third. She uncorked a booming right hand that put Klinphaka down for good, extending her unbeaten record to 5-0 with a third consecutive stoppage.

The loss marked Klinphaka's first under the ONE Championship banner.

“The game plan was to control the range and be patient,” Bomogao said during her post-fight interview.

“And so I didn’t wanna rush things in the first and second round. I was kinda like measuring her. In the third round, my coaches were like ‘Straight hand and then bam right away.’ And I released my right hand and bam she went down.”

The emphatic finish earned Bomogao a coveted ONE Championship contract worth USD 100,000. She also pocketed a third straight performance bonus amounting to THB 350,000.
