EJ Obiena rules Jockgrim meet for second straight victory

Filipino pole vault star EJ Obiena secured his second consecutive victory in Germany after topping the 30th International Pole Vault Meeting in Jockgrim on Wednesday (local time).

Obiena cleared 5.83 meters on his first attempt to claim the gold medal, finishing ahead of Qatar's Seifeldin Abdelsalam, who needed three attempts to clear the same height.

Türkiye's Ersu Şaşma finished third after clearing 5.77 meters. Obiena, Abdelsalam, and Şaşma all attempted to clear 5.93 meters but were unsuccessful after three tries.

The victory comes on the heels of Obiena's triumph at the Internationales Stabhochsprungmeeting in Halberstadt on July 31, where he topped the field with a 5.76-meter clearance.
