Alex Eala, Venus Williams fall to Kato, Samsonova in Canadian Open doubles Round of 32

Alexandra "Alex" Eala and Venus Williams bowed out of the Canadian Open doubles tournament after falling to Miyu Kato and Liudmila Samsonova, 6-4, 6-3, in the Round of 32 on Thursday (Friday, Philippine time).

Kato and Samsonova came out strong, building a 2-0 lead in the opening set before extending it to 4-2. Eala and Williams fought back to level the score, but Kato and Samsonova regained control and closed out the first set.

Carrying their momentum into the second set, Kato and Samsonova raced to a 4-0 advantage before Eala and Williams got on the scoreboard with back-to-back games. Kato and Samsonova moved within a game of the match, while Eala and Williams managed to save one more game before their opponents sealed the straight-set victory.

Eala will return to action on Friday (Saturday, Philippine time), when she faces Caty McNally in the Canadian Open singles Round of 32.
