Alex Eala talks about her new Canadian Open fan — the dinosaur

Alexandra “Alex” Eala appears to have picked up a new fan at the Canadian Open — and this one happens to be a person in a dinosaur costume.

The dinosaur fan was spotted during Eala’s first-round match against Alycia Parks and was back in the stands on Friday when the Filipina ace battled Caty McNally.

The fan also carried the Philippine flag while cheering for Eala.

For Eala, that fan is a legend.

“You know, today, I didn't see him in the crowd. I knew he was there. People told me he was there,” Eala said in a post-match conference when asked about the dinosaur.

“But, wow, what a legend. Like, it was so funny when I first saw him the first night. Amazing.”

“I don't know. It was like such a light, funny spin to kind of like how people support me. It just comes out in very unique ways and I think he's really stood out,” Eala added.

Eala has been vocal about her gratitude to her fans, and just like the dinosaur, the crowd supporting her made sure they were heard on Friday night as the Filipina star called on them to cheer her on.

“In that point specifically, I think I wanted to kind of like... I was hyped,” she said about the moment in the third set.

“So, I wanted to kind of like share that with the crowd and obviously also try to take in their energy. But I think it was a pretty good point. I don't remember quite so well.”

“Normally I try to just be indifferent… but I think that point was specifically... I'm sorry, I can't find the word. It was... Yeah, I wanted that point.”

Eala will be back in action against Belinda Bencic in the Round of 16.
