Keirsten Fernandez wins 2nd gold as PH bags 4 medals in Asian Open Short Track Speed Skating Trophy
Keirsten Fernandez won her second gold medal in the Asian Open Short Track Speed Skating Trophy after ruling the Junior C Girls’ 777-meter event on Thursday in India.
The 13-year-old Fernandez clocked 1:19.989 to finish first, ahead of Australia’s Rachel Yi Lin Tan, who placed second in 1:20.749, and Matsuri Kinasih of Indonesia and Jacey Yeung of Hong Kong, who took third in 1:20.779.
On Wednesday, Fernandez ruled the 1,000-meter event in the same category, giving the Philippines its first-ever gold medal in the tournament.
The Philippines also added another medal to its haul as 23-year-old Xsandrie Guimba finished second in the senior women’s 1,000-meter event with a time of 1:52.003. Thailand’s Thanutchaya Chatthaisong won gold in 1:45.602, while China’s Yuchen Liu took bronze in 1:53.031.
In total, the Philippines bagged four medals in the tournament, with 8-year-old Zymone Zurbito also claiming bronze in the Junior F Boys’ 333-meter event.
