Alex Eala, Felix Auger-Aliassime begin US Open mixed doubles run vs. husband-and-wife duo Svitolina, Monfils
A star-studded matchup awaits Alex Eala and Felix Auger-Aliassime as the Filipino-Canadian tandem opens its US Open mixed doubles campaign against tennis power couple Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils.
Match is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 p.m. (Philippine time) at the Louis Armstrong Stadium as Eala and Auger-Aliassime face the husband-and-wife pair in the Round of 16.
On paper, Svitolina and Monfils, who have been married since 2021, hold the advantage as they both carry wealthy experiences in the doubles competition with Svitolona holding two career doubles titles under her name.
In the 2025 US Open, French tennis star Monfils saw action in the mixed doubles as well and formed a tandem with Naomi Osaka as they bowed to Caty McNally and Lorenzo Musetti in the first round.
Currently, Svitolina is ranked No. 9 by the WTA while Monfils is ranked No. 307 by ITP. Eala recently moved up to a career-high No. 18, becoming the highest-ranked Southeast Asian player in the history of the WTA, while Auger-Aliassime is ranked No. 4.
