Alas Pilipinas Women drub Qatar in Asian Games classification round

With their medal hopes already over, Alas Pilipinas Women still came out firing as they swept Qatar, 25-8, 25-2, 25-9 in the 2026 Asian Games classification round on Sunday at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium.

The Filipinas will next face Mongolia in another classification match, with the winner advancing to the battle for ninth place.

Middle blocker Amie Provido had a breakout game, dropping 18 points built on 10 attacks, four blocks, and four aces, while fellow young guns Shaina Nitura and Bella Belen chipped in seven and six markers each.

Alas dominated the game from the get-go and all throughout, opening Set 1 with a 12-1 start to set the tone before Nitura and Alyssa Solomon converted the last two points to seal the frame.

Belen then unleashed a down-the-line hammer that caught Dana Aboueita's defense by surprise to help Alas surge to a fiery 19-0 run in the second frame.

Qatar scored two points in the next few sequences, but the Philippines leaned on Nitura's combination play, Provido's ace, and Niña Ytang's block to race to a commanding 2-0 lead.

Alas never lost control since then with veteran setter Jia De Guzman serving an ace to clinch the match point and Belen completing a combination attack to seal the deal.
