PVL: Choco Mucho stuns star-studded Capital1 in Cebu showdown

Eya Laure delivered big time as Choco Mucho shocked Capital1 with a come-from-behind act, 22-25, 18-25, 25-17, 25-20, 15-8, to open the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference Siklab Series on Saturday at the SM Seaside Cebu Arena.

Laure, who was just coming off her Alas Pilipinas duty in the Asian Games, dropped a triple-double showing of 22 points, 15 receptions, and 12 digs to upset the official Capital1 debut of both Erika Santos and Vanie Gandler.

Sisi Rondina-Rosales, also fresh off an Asian Games stint with the beach volleyball team, chipped in 12 points while Maddie Madayag added 11 as the Flying Titans were off to a flyer in the new season.

“They accepted my challenge after the second set. I told them that they don’t need to be the best, but be a team that wants to win,” Choco Mucho head coach Dante Alinsunurin said in Filipino.

“I am so thankful with how they responded to that challenge.”

Once down two sets to none, Choco Mucho refused to go down without a fight with the Flying Titans collectively punishing the Solar Spikers to force a Set 5.

There Laure took over. She brought her team to a 6-2 lead by unleashing a hit from the left wing before Rondina-Rosales soared from exactly the same spot to make it an 8-3 cushion.

But Capital1 staged a resurgence with Gandler rising from the back to pull her team to within two, 7-9. Laure, though, counteted with the same attack to clinch the match point at 14-7 before officially sealing the deal following a service error from Pia Abbu.
