Ateneo ends drought with win over UST

The Ateneo Lady Eagles are no longer winless in the UAAP Women’s Volleyball tournament as they defeated the UST Lady Tigresses 16-25 25-22 25-22 25-23.

It was a total team effort for the Lady Eagles who had four players scoring in double figures. Kat Tolentino, Jhoanna Maraguinot, and Bea De Leon all tallied 11 points each, while Julianne Samonte added 10.

It was a sorry loss for the Lady Tigresses, who actually led in attack points, 40-39, and service aces, 15-8.

But Ateneo feasted on a slew of UST errors, enough to edge UST in three of four close sets.

Sisi Rondina carried UST with 22 points of 19 attacks and three aces, while Milena Alessandrini added 11 markers off three blocks and three aces. Cherry Francisco tallied 10 off six kills and three blocks.

With the win, Ateneo joined UST just behind undefeated teams NU (3-0) and La Salle (2-0) with an identical 1-2 win-loss card. — DVM, GMA News
