Ateneo continues to roll, dominates UP

The Ateneo Lady Eagles cruised past the UP Lady Maroons on Sunday, earning a 25-20 25-22 28-26 victory in the elimination round of the UAAP Women’s Volleyball tournament at the FilOil Arena in San Juan.

Jules Samonte powered Ateneo with 15 points off 12 kills and two blocks, while Jho Maraguinot added 11 off nine kills. Maddie Madayag and Bea De Leon chipped in nine each, while Kat Tolentino added seven markers.

Ateneo barely edged UP in attack points, 39-36, but the Katipunan-based squad feasted on 26 UP errors to earn another victory.

Dianna Carlos and Isa Molde carried the Lady Maroons with 20 and 16 points, respectively, combining for 31 of their team’s 36 attack points. But aside from Maris Layug’s seven points, the rest of the squad combined for just seven points. — DVM, GMA News
