Hailing from a showbiz family, NCAA star Justine Lapid looks to carve own path | NCAA Philippines

It would hardly be a surprise if Justine Lapid, the open spiker for the San Beda Lady Red Spikers in NCAA, enters the complex world of showbiz.

Her father is Jess Lapid Jr., a veteran TV and film actor who has been in the circle since 1979 while her grandfather is no less than late action star Jesus Lapid, or who was more popularly known as Jess Lapid Sr.

The NCAA standout is related by blood to action great and current Philippine senator Lito Lapid, who is a cousin of her father. She is also the cousin of Ysabel Ortega, who is presently a rising talent under the GMA Network.

But even with a storied bloodline, Justine opted to go another route--sports.

“What I keep in mind is not because they are action stars or actors, I have to follow their footsteps,” said Justine in Chino Trinidad’s ‘24 Oras’ report on Friday.

“I want to make a name for myself as an athlete.”

Not only is she doing that as part of the San Beda volleyball program, Justine is also making waves as a divemaster, teaching lessons to both beginners and veterans in the field of diving.

And the third year Marketing Management major is grateful that she can do both things at the same time. After all, according to her, both sports require ‘trust’ in order for an athlete to be successful.

“Trust is where the foundation of the team starts. If you put your trust in each other, you can achieve whatever it is that you need to achieve,” she said.

She also credited the support from his parents and the Bedan community, which she shared is pushing her to be better at what she does.

“I am being pushed to play better because aside from the team, coaches and family, the Bedan community always has my back whether we are winning or losing,” she added. —Bea Micaller/JMB, GMA News
