Bryan Bagunas, Oita Miyoshi drop Sakai in four-set thriller to open V.League campaign


Bryan Bagunas and the Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler dropped the third set but recovered to trounce the Osaka Sakai Blazers, 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 28-26 to open their 2021-2022 Japan V. League bid on Saturday at the Nippon Steel Sakai Gymnasium.

Bagunas, a National University product and a national team mainstay, is in his third-straight year with the Japanese club and looks to help the team surpass their 3-33 record last year.

Bagunas shone the brightest for Oita, scoring 22 points built on an impressive 17 attacks, four blocks, and an ace to lift his team past Sakai while teammate Emerson Rodriguez contributed 18 attacks and an ace.

It’s going to be back-to-back meetings for both teams as they face anew on Sunday, October 17, at 12 p.m.
