MRT-Negros sweeps Basilan in classification match, stays alive in PNVF Champions League
MRT-Negros remained alive in the PNVF Champions League after dispatching the Basilan Steel Spikers in their classification match, 25-20, 25-18, 25-20, on Thursday in Lipa City, Batangas.
Team captain Christian Marcelino paced MRT-Negros with 15 points off 11 attacks, three blocks, and a service ace while Jet Nonoy and Jian Matthew Salarzon poured in six markers each.
The loss formally capped off the campaign of Basilan as it finished last among the seven competing teams.
Meanwhile, MRT-Negros will face the Sabong International Spikers in the battle for fifth place on Friday at 10 a.m. In their preliminary round meeting, MRT-Negros got the better of Sabong Spikers after escaping in a five-set thriller.
Friday will also see four clubs slugging it out in the semifinal round with the Go for Golf-Air Force Aguilas facing Global Remit at 1:30 p.m. followed by the match between the Team Dasma Monarchs and Maneliño Spikers at 4 p.m.
