Creamline sweeps Petro Gazz to take 2022 PVL Open title

The queens are back on the throne.

Creamline recovered from a set two loss to pull off a 25-18, 15-25, 25-23, 25-16, Game 2 victory against Petro Gazz to be hailed the 2022 PVL Open Conference champions on Friday.

Tied at one set apiece, team captain Alyssa Valdez came alive in the third set as she brought the Cool Smashers to a 22-19 upper hand as the Angels tried to threaten a comeback.

Nicole Tiamzon and Chie Saet then brought Petro Gazz to within one, 22-21, but Creamline held on to win the third frame to go 2-1 in the game.

Valdez gave Creamline its first championship point before middle blocker Ced Domingo sealed the victory with a quick attack.

The former Ateneo standout finished with a team-high 20 points and 11 digs while Jema Galanza produced 17 markers.

The win will be a redemption of sorts for Creamline after it failed to bag the title last year, falling to the mighty Chery Tiggo in the 2021 Open Conference.

Earlier, Creamline's Tots Carlos was hailed the Conference MVP while also bagging the Best Opposite honors.

Creamline has now won a total of four titles in the PVL since joining the league in 2018.
