La Salle sweeps Ateneo to book finals duel vs NU

De La Salle University is on its way to reclaim women's volleyball supremacy as it swept Ateneo de Manila University, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23, in the UAAP Season 84 stepladder round on Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Lady Spikers asserted their mastery of the Katipunan-based squad as it won its tenth straight game against the Blue Eagles since Season 79.

Leiah Malaluan had 16 points while Thea Gagate had 13 points for the green and white. Spoiled in the La Salle win was Faith Nisperos' 19-point effort.

DLSU missed the Season 81 Finals in 2019 as Ateneo and the University of Santo Tomas faced each other in the finals. Prior to missing it, La Salle had been a fixture in the finals of the women's volleyball tourney from Season 71 to 80.

The Taft-based squad had its last title in 2018 when it defeated Far Eastern University.

With the win, the Taft-based squad will go against the undefeated National University in the finals on Saturday.
