Philippines notches best finish in AVC Cup at 6th place after straight sets loss to Chinese Taipei


The Philippine national women's volleyball team concluded its campaign in the 2022 AVC Cup for Women at sixth place after falling to Chinese Taipei, 28-26, 25-21, 25-21, on Monday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

Errors from the Chinese Taipei side tied the game at 18 in the third set before they reclaimed the lead, 20-18. A score from Jema Galanza tied the game at 20 before Chinese Taipei took control of the game to take the fifth spot of the tournament.

The sixth place ending is the best finish of the national team in the AVC Cup for Women since being qualified in 2018 where the country placed ninth.

In total, the Philippines had 3 wins (vs.Iran, Korea, Australia) and 4 losses (vs. Vietnam, China, Thailand, Chinese Taipei) in the tournament.

Celine Domingo had 12 points, while Michele Gumabao and Jeanette Panaga had 9 and 8 points, respectively.
