NU-Sta. Elena dethrones Cignal to take home Spikers' Turf title
National University-Sta. Elena took home the Spikers' Turf Open Conference crown on Saturday after dethroning the Cignal HD Spikers, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, in Game 2 of the Finals on Saturday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
Micchaelo Budin had 22 points to lead NU to the title, while Nico Almendras had 18 points.
Ysay Marasigan had 17 points in the loss, while Louie Ramirez and Marck Espejo chipped in 16 points each in the valiant effort.
This is NU-Sta. Elena's franchise first title in league history. PGJC-Navy Sea Lions, meanwhile, claimed the third place.
Prior to the finals, individual awardees were recognized, with Almendras claiming the Most Valuable Player Award. Josh Retamar (NU) was named Best Setter, while Espejo (Cignal) and Ben San Andres (VNS) were recognized as Best Outside Spikers. Obed Mukaba (NU) and JP Bugaoan (Cignal) were the Best Middle Blockers, while Manuel Sumanguid III (Cignal) was named as Best Libero.
