Petro Gazz successfully defended its title after turning back Cignal in four sets, 25-17, 22-25, 25-12, 25-22, in Game 2 of their 2022 PVL Reinforced Conference Finals clash on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena.

Veteran Rachel Anne Daquis drilled back-to-back points to bring Cignal to a 25-22 second set win and level the game, but the Angels retaliated in the third frame with a dominant 25-12 victory.

In the fourth set, middle blocker Remy Palma unleashed two strong running attacks as Petro Gazz saw its lead balloon to seven, 18-11.

Cignal, though, showed signs of life after Ces Molina and Tai Bierria instigated a furious 6-0 run as they pulled to within just one point, 18-17. Bierria and her Petro Gazz counterpart Lindsey Vander Weide then had an exchange of hammers in the following sequences.

Three straight attacks from Bierria again brought Cignal close, 22-20, before Vander Weide soared from the opposite side followed by a Myla Pablo hit for championship point.

Bierria and Molina saved two match points for Cignal but Pablo made sure to put the punctuation as she delivered the game-winning point.

Vander Weide finished with a team-high 19 points while Palma and Pablo collected 18 and 17 markers apiece.
