NU sweeps FEU for third straight win; UST keeps UE winless


National University notched its third straight win after sweeping Far Eastern University, 25-21, 25-9, 25-18 in the UAAP Season 85 women's volleyball tournament on Saturday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Mhicaela Belen tallied 16 points while Alyssa Solomon and Cess Robles chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively, to improve the Lady Bulldogs' standings to 5-1.

FEU scorers were limited to single-digit output as Chenie Tagaod and Jean Asis made six points each which handed FEU a 3-4 card at the end of the first round.

Earlier, University of Santo Tomas also extended its winning streak to three after a four-set win against University of the East, 30-32, 25-18, 25-16, 25-14.

Eya Laure had 18 points while Reg Jurado had 13 points for the Golden Tigresses to end their first round matches. Janeca Lana had 13 points while KC Cepada had 12 points for UE which is still winless in seven games.

In the men's division, UST (6-1) swept UE (0-5), 25-17, 25-21, 25-23, while NU (6-0) defeated FEU (5-2), 25-20, 25-20, 25-16.

UAAP action will return on Sunday with De La Salle University going against Adamson University and Ateneo de Manila University facing University of the Philippines.
