La Salle asserts mastery over Ateneo to secure top seed; UST completes Final Four cast
De La Salle University asserted its mastery over Ateneo de Manila, 25-22, 25-19, 25-18, to secure the top seed in the UAAP Season 85 women's volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Shevana Laput posted 16 points while Angel Canino had 13 points on top of five excellent digs and 11 excellent receptions to bring the Lady Spikers to a 12-1 record and 12th straight win against the Katipunan-based squad since April 2017.
Vanie Gandler made 13 points, while Faith Nisperos and AC Miner had 12 and 10 points, respectively in the Blue Eagles' loss which put them 4-9.
Earlier, University of Santo Tomas booked the last slot in the UAAP Final Four after taking down Far Eastern University, 26-24, 22-25, 25-16, 25-23.
Eya Laure had 28 points on top of eight excellent digs to lead the Tigresses, while Imee Hernandez had 19 points to improve their standings to 9-3, and eliminate FEU which went down to 6-7.
UAAP action will return on Wednesday as UST again sees itself in a crucial match, this time against National University who also has nine wins and three losses. University of the Philippines and University of the East will face each other in the afternoon matches.
