NU sweeps UE to go 4-0 in UAAP women's volleyball; UST downs Adamson for third straight win
National University swept the University of the East, 25-12, 25-11, 25-20, to remain perfect in four games in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Bella Belen had 18 points from 14 attacks, three blocks, and an ace, while Vange Alinsug had 10 points in the straight sets victory.
Nessa Bangayan and KC Cepeda, meanwhile, had seven points apiece to lead the Lady Red Warriors who remained winless in four games.
"Kahit sinong kalaban namin, kailangan ‘yung effort na binibigay namin is 100 percent pa rin. Kumbaga, hindi dapat kami namimili ng kalaban and I’m very happy kasi naging team effort po ito, hindi lang isa ‘yung nagtrabaho para maipanalo,” said Belen.
Meanwhile, the University of Santo Tomas extended its winning streak to three as it defeated Adamson University, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13, 27-25.
Angge Poyos had 21 points from 20 attacks, while Reg Jurado had 17 points as the Golden Tigresses improved to 3-1.
Rookie Shaina Nitura had 28 points from 26 attacks and two aces, while Frances Mordi had 13 points as the Lady Falcons slipped to 2-2.
In the men's diivision, NU (3-1) bounced back at the expense of UE (0-4), 25-20, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15, while UST (3-1) swept Adamson (1-3), 25-18, 25-15, 25-23.
