FEU takes down La Salle in UAAP women's volleyball for the first time in six years

For the first time in six years, Far Eastern University defeated De La Salle University, 25-20, 28-26, 20-25, 25-23, to cap their elimination round campaign in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Before this, FEU last won against La Salle on April 28, 2019 in UAAP Season 81.

The win also handed both FEU and La Salle similar 9-5 records to end the elimination round.

For FEU head coach Tina Salak, the Lady Tamaraws worked their magic against the Lady Spikers.

“Ewan ko parang may mga magic yata itong mga player ko eh, ginamit ang mga magic wand… Overwhelming ‘yung feeling kasi ever since 2019 nga. Overwhelming talaga ‘yung nangyari ngayon,” Salak said.

Gerz Petallo led FEU with 19 points from 16 attacks, two aces, and a block, while Jaz Ellarina had 13 points.

The win spoiled Angel Canino's 25-point output for the Taft-based squad.

Despite the win, FEU will remain at the fourth spot due to an inferior set ratio.

La Salle, meanwhile, will have to wait for the results of the match between University of Santo Tomas and National University. UST currently holds a 9-4 card and a loss tomorrow will give La Salle a chance for a playoff for the twice-to-beat advantage.

Earlier, Ateneo de Manila University capped its Season 87 campaign with a win against University of the East, 18-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-12.

The Blue Eagles finished with a 5-9 card, while UE closed the tournament winless.
