FEU ousts La Salle, advances to UAAP men's volleyball finals; UST forces do-or-die vs NU


Far Eastern University advanced to the UAAP Season 87 men's volleyball finals after dispatching De La Salle University, 24-26, 25-24, 25-19, 25-20, in the Final Four round on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Ariel Cacao flexed his setting prowess with 31 points and distributed the ball well with five players in scoring in double digits for the Tamaraws.

Mikko Espartero had 17 points, all from attacks, and 15 excellent receptions, while Doula Ndongala had 17 points from 12 attacks, four blocks and an ace for the twice-to-beat FEU. Lirick Mendoza added 14 points, while Dryx Saavedra and Amet Bituin had 11 points.

Graduating Noel Kampton gave his all with 19 points from 17 attacks and two blocks, to go with 19 excellent receptions, in his final game for La Salle, while Rui Ventura added 17 points.

Earlier, University of Santo Tomas forced a do-or-die against twice-to-beat National University, 26-24, 27-25, 19-25, 25-18.

Josh Ybañez starred for the Golden Spikers with 22 points, while Jay dela Noche and Rey de Vega had 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Leo Aringo had 18 points, while Leo Ordiales had 15 points for the Bulldogs.

FEU will now face the winner of the do-or-die match between NU and UST on Wednesday.
