PLDT off to unbeaten start in PVL Invitationals with sweep of Cignal
PLDT preserved its unscathed run so far in the 2025 PVL Invitational Conference after blanking Cignal, 25-19, 25-13, 25-22, on Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
The High Speed Hitters, who were coming off a tournament sweep at the PVL On Tour, continued to show no signs of fatigue as they quickly dispatched the HD Spikers behind the veteran-rookie tandem of Savi Davison and Alleiah Malaluan.
Davison poured in 17 points together with six digs and seven receptions while the first-year Malaluan chipped in 12 markers as the former La Salle standout continued to shine for PLDT.
PLDT improved to 3-0 to take the top spot in team standings while CIgnal dropped to a 0-3 start.
Tied at 16-all, the HD Spikers unleashed a crucial 3-0 run capped by a service ace from Ethan Arce that swung the momentum onto their side.
But the High Speed Hitters got their acts together by responding with pivotal 5-2 rampage capped by a Majoy Baron quick attack that saw the score knotted at 21-all.
Davison then unloaded a cross court kill for a slim 22-21 lead before another hammer from her made it a 23-22 advantage. Malaluan delivered the match point by showing off her own kill from the left wing, 24-22.
An error from Cignal saw PLDT complete another sweep victory as Jessa Ordiales committed an error on her attack.
Reigning PVL On Tour MVP Erika Santos paced Cignal with 10 points, but got minimal support with Tin Tiamzon chipping in seven markers.
