USA sweeps Colombia to open FIVB Men's World Championship campaign

The United States swept Colombia, 25-20, 25-21, 25-14, in the first game of their 2025 FIVB Men's World Championship campaign on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

After two tight sets, the Americans dominated the final frame, with Ethan Champlin scoring 8 of his 17 points in that set alone.

The US pulled away early in the third set, 6-1, before further widening the gap. They led 19-9 after a Champlin ace. His service error that followed, along with an ace from Ronald Andrés Jiménez Zamora, brought Colombia to 11 points. Champlin, however, bounced back to give the U.S. a 20-11 lead, and the Americans eventually sealed the victory.

Champlin led the US with 17 points from 12 attacks and two blocks, while Gabriel García added 12 points.

Miguel Ángel Martínez paced Colombia with 11 points.
