Argentina broke a 20-all deadlock in the crucial fourth set, with Kukartsev converting a service ace and an attack to fuel a 4-1 run, before another kill from him capped the frame and forced a deciding set.

Finland stayed close in the final frame, with Petteri Tyynismaa tying it at 6-all, but Argentina surged ahead after Agustin Loser blocked Luka Marttila to give his side an 11-7 cushion.

Nicolas Zerba brought Argentina to match point at 14-10, before a service error from Finland sealed the victory for head coach Marcelo Mendez and his squad.

In the other match, Belgium cruised to a straight-sets win over Ukraine, 25-16, 25-17, 25-22, behind rising star Ferre Reggers.

The 22-year-old opposite hitter led the charge with 23 points built on 20 attacks and three blocks, while Seppe Rotty contributed 13 markers, helping Belgium start strong at 1-0 in Pool F.
