Bagunas, Espejo among statistical leaders in 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship
Alas Pilipinas Men veterans Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo are among the statistical leaders in the ongoing 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship.
According to the tournament website, Bagunas currently ranks second among the tournament’s best scorers with a total of 48 points, anchored on 43 attacks, a performance that also places him third in the attacking category.
Bulgaria’s Aleksandar Nikolov and Ferre Reggers top the scoring leaders with 54 points each.
Espejo, meanwhile, ranks second among the tournament’s best receivers with 18 successful receptions, just behind Argentina’s Luciano Palonsky, who has 20.
Josh Ybañez is currently tied for sixth among the tournament’s best diggers, registering 15 digs, tied with Jordan Ewert (USA), Landon Currie (Canada), Santiago Danani (Argentina), and Abdelrahman Elhossiny Eissa (Egypt).
Owa Retamar, on the other hand, ranks seventh among the best setters with 66 successful sets, tied with Miguel Tavares Rodrigues of Portugal and Fedor Ivanov of Finland.
The Philippines is set to face world No. 15 Iran in its final preliminary round match on Thursday.
Alas Pilipinas needs to finish in the top two spots in Pool A to advance to the Round of 16. All teams in Pool A currently hold identical 1-1 records and have three points each.
