Philippines to host 2029 FIVB Women's Volleyball World Championship

The Philippines is once again in the global spotlight, having been awarded the hosting rights for the 2029 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship.

FIVB, led by federation president Fabio Azevedo, made the announcement Sunday during the final day of Manila’s hosting of the 2025 Men’s World Championship at the Mall of Asia Arena.

This will be the first time the Women’s World Championship is held in the Philippines and marks the second time in the last three editions that the tournament will take place in Southeast Asia. Thailand hosted the 2025 edition, while the USA and Canada are set to co-host the 2027 tournament.

“Thank you for hosting the best world championships ever. But now, we have an amazing surprise,” Azevedo said during the announcement ahead of the Italy-Bulgaria gold medal match.

Legendary Brazilian volleyball player Leila Barros revealed, “The Women’s Volleyball World Championship 2029 will be in the Philippines.”

Hosting the tournament means the Alas Pilipinas Women’s team will have the opportunity to compete on the global stage for the first time, going up against the best teams in the world.

Italy is the reigning champion after edging Turkey in the finals earlier this month, led by stars Paola Egonu, Myriam Sylla, and Ekaterina Antropova.
