PVL: Creamline, Cignal notch wins as second round of prelims begins
The Creamline Cool Smashers and the Cignal Super Spikers opened the second round of the PVL Reinforced Conference preliminary phase with victories on Thursday at the Filoil Arena.
Creamline overcame a sluggish start to defeat Nxled, 20-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-18.
Import Courtney Schwan led the Cool Smashers with 14 points, while Michele Gumabao paced the locals with 13. Jeanette Panaga and Tots Carlos chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively, as Creamline improved to 3-1 in Pool C.
Reinforcement Paola Martinez had 18 points as Nxled remained winless in six outings.
In the second match, Cignal bounced back from a second-set slip to outlast Capital1, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20.
Import Katrin Trebichavska powered the HD Spikers with 25 points built on 22 attacks, while also tallying nine digs and seven receptions. Erika Santos added 19 points in the victory.
Annie Mitchem had 22 points to lead the Chargers, while Fifi Sharma added 13 points.
Cignal improved to 3-3, while the Chargers dropped to the same record.
