PVL: Savi Davison erupts for career-high 36 to propel PLDT past Chery Tiggo; Farm Fresh, Petro Gazz take crucial wins
Savi Davison dropped her best game yet as PLDT recovered from a Set 1 stumble to complete a 26-28, 25-12, 25-16, 25-13 win against Chery Tiggo in the 2025 PVL Reinforced Conference on Saturday at the Ynares Center Montalban.
The Filipino-Canadian spiker dropped a career-high 36-point outing anchored on 33 attacks, two blocks, and one ace while also shining on the defensive end with her 10 digs and 14 receptions to help the High Speed Hitters surged to a 6-1 card.
Import Anastasiia Bavykina backstopped Davison with 16 points built on 11 attacks, four aces, and one block together with 10 receptions while Kim Kianna Dy and Dell Palomata supplied nine and seven markers each.
Despite a career night, Davison said what mattered most was their team victory as PLDT bolstered its chances of closing out the elimination round at the top in their bid to complete a rare three-peat title.
"I'm just happy that we won. I honestly wasn't keeping track of how many points I was scoring," Davison said.
"I'm just happy that, you know, we were able to create the gap and win the last three sets comfortably. I'm just happy with the win regardless."
Meanwhile, Farm Fresh and Petro Gazz gutted out crucial wins against Galeries and Capital1, respectively, to boost their respective quarterfinal drives.
Farm Fresh recovered from a tight Set 1 to win the next two sets dominantly over the lowly Galeries with a 25-23, 25-13, 25-11 triumph while Petro Gazz escaped a dangerous Capital1, 25-27, 25-13, 25-10, 25-13.
The surging Foxies relied on the tandem of Helene Rousseaux and Trisha Tubu with the Belgian import dazzling with 19 points on 13 attacks, three blocks, and three aces together with seven digs. The lefty Tubu, meanwhile, churned out 16 markers as they soared to a third win in a row for a 6-1 card.
The Angels, on the other hand, also had their import to thank for the four-set romp of the Solar Spikers as Lindsey Vander Weide connected 22 points alongside 11 receptions while Brooke Van Sickle and MJ Phillips chimed in with 21 and 19 markers apiece.
Petro Gazz climbed to 4-3 while Capital1 fell to 3-4 as the elimination round entered the home stretch.
