PVL: Vanie Gandler’s all-around performance propels Cignal to undefeated start
Cignal Super Spikers outside hitter Vanie Gandler is turning her game up.
In Cignal’s impressive 25-17, 26-24, 20-25, 30-28 win over the Farm Fresh Foxies, Gandler had her fingerprints all over the game, scoring a career-high 25 points on 24 kills and an ace while also racking up 15 excellent receptions and 14 digs.
Staying unblemished with their third win in as many games, Gandler credits her team’s hard work and willingness to learn for their excellent start.
“I’m really proud of my team because we work really hard, and we really try our best to apply everything that’s taught to us. We still have many lapses, many things to work on, but I’m very happy with how we’re willing to learn and improve each training,” said Gandler.
To start the All-Filipino Conference, the former Ateneo Blue Eagle is showcasing her much improved defensive game as well.
Nevertheless, Gandler does not concern herself much with what reflects on the stat sheet, but rather how else she can help the Super Spikers win.
“If I’m in the front row, that’s with scoring–and back row, defense. I don’t really think of the stats, just where else I can help with the team to get this win.”
Besides her excellent showing against Farm Fresh, the 25-year-old put out strong performances against Galeries Tower and Choco Mucho. Against the Highrisers, Gandler had 14 points, three digs, and three excellent receptions, while against the Flying Titans she finished with 16 points and eight excellent receptions.
Aside from the valuable international experiences that she has gained over the last couple of years being a member of the Alas Pilipinas national team, Gandler credits her Super Spikers family for her continuous development on the court.
“I think it’s just the experiences I’ve had, and the environment I have to always improve. [Also] my improvement is because of my teammates, my coaches. I’m grateful for everything that they teach me and that my teammates give me confidence every time,” expressed Gandler.
