UAAP men’s volleyball: FEU sweeps La Salle; UP outlasts UE in season opener

Far Eastern University made quick work of De La Salle University, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19, while the University of the Philippines outlasted the University of the East, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-11, on opening day of UAAP Season 88 men’s volleyball Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Tamaraws needed just one hour and 24 minutes to complete the sweep of the Green Spikers, as Dryx Saavedra and Mikko Espartero scored 16 and 14 points, respectively, for the Morayta-based squad.

Ariel Cacao made 17 of FEU’s 18 excellent sets and added seven points in the victory.

No player scored in double figures for La Salle, with Issa Ousseini leading the Green Spikers with nine points.

Earlier, Olayemi Raheem erupted for 30 points to power the Fighting Maroons to victory in a five-set thriller.

Raheem received ample support, with Tommy Castrodes finishing with 15 points, Milven Francisco Jr. adding 14, and Angelo Lipata contributing 13.

The win spoiled Raquim Aceron’s 26-point performance for the Red Warriors.
