UAAP women’s volleyball: UP downs UE as Casiey Dongallo faces former team

Casiey Dongallo and the University of the Philippines defeated the University of the East, Dongallo’s former team, 25-12, 25-9, 21-25, 25-19, to open the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament.t on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Dongallo finished with 13 points despite exiting midway through the third set due to back pain, still emerging as one of the leaders for the Diliman-based squad. New UP head coach Fabio Menta clarified that her early exit was merely precautionary.

Niña Ytang and Irah Jaboneta scored 14 points apiece for the Fighting Maroons, while Kianne Olango added 13.

Aside from Dongallo, Jelai Gajero, Shamel Fernandez, Jenalyn Umayan, and Kizzie Madriaga also faced their former team for the first time.

Nessa Bangayan led UE with 19 points, while Beatrice Anne Zamudio contributed 14.

UP next faces Ateneo de Manila University, while UE looks to bounce back against Far Eastern University.
